Although Apple’s AirPods don’t provide the ultimate best-in-class audio quality that serious audiophiles seek, they sound nice and are simple to use, two factors that have made them popular among iPhone users.
The setup process is straightforward and just takes a few seconds, whether you’re putting them up for the first time or wish to connect them to a second iPhone.
How to connect your AirPods to an iPhone
Make sure your iPhone is up to date with the newest version of iOS and that your AirPods are fully charged before you begin. They don’t have to be completely charged to sync with an iPhone, though.
Your Bluetooth is very certainly already turned on, but double-check. To do so, open the Settings app, tap Bluetooth, and make sure the slider is turned on with the right-hand button swiped.
Go to your iPhone’s Home screen and make sure the screen is on before going to the next step.
Depending on which AirPods model you have, do one of the following:
AirPods (second or third generation) or Pro are two options. Open the charging case and hold it close to the iPhone with the AirPods inside. If the pairing instructions do not show, push and hold the rear of the case’s button for several seconds.
AirPods Max are an upgraded original cersion. Remove them from their case and place them in close proximity to the iPhone. If the pairing instructions do not show, push the Noise Control button on the right earcup and then hold the headphones near the iPhone.
If they have already been connected to another iPhone, you’ll see a Not Your AirPods pop-up. To continue, tap Connect.
Follow the directions on the screen. Tap Done when you’re finished.
You won’t have to connect them again since they’ll be linked to your iCloud profile on all of your other Apple devices with the same Apple ID, including as your iPad and MacBook.
Quick tip: You can use an audio cord to connect your AirPods Max to your iPhone without connecting it. To use the AirPods Max, you’ll need an Apple Lightning to 3.5 mm Audio Cable and an Apple Lightning to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter.
