Along with a slew of new products, Apple is expected to release its AR/VR headset in 2023. The Apple Watch and iPhone 15 will also receive updates in the same year.
So, 2023 is expected to be the year AR/VR headset is going to be released. The headset, which combines augmented and virtual reality to create an immersive experience of the real world, will be a limited edition and quite expensive.
The VR apps would be able to detect and relay facial movements during video chats and other interactions. For see-through augmented reality experiences, eight cameras will be used. They will be able to detect people in the room, map surfaces and room dimensions. Moreover, they will allow to place objects in front of and behind real objects. Apple will employ eye-tracking, hand gestures, and a finger-mounted input accessory.
The company plans to open a store for the headset, which will focus on gaming, streaming video content, and communication. The expected cost is around $3,000.
The iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max will be released in the same size as expected. However, there have been rumours that the new series will have a rounded off design like the casing on the 2021 model 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. For the Pro models, the phone could have a titanium chassis, as well as solid-state volume and power buttons like the home button on Touch ID iPhones.
Apple will switch its iPhone from the lightning port to USB-C, which is already used by Macs and iPads. The USB-C connector will be universal for charging all Apple devices and may even improve charging speeds. The iPhone 15 Pro models will support data transfer speeds of up to 40Gb/s via USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt. Periscope lens technology, which improves optical zoom from the telephoto lens, is expected to be included in the high-end larger iPhone.
The iPhone 15 series may also include the next-generation A17 chip. This chip increases processing performance by 10 to 15% while decreasing power consumption by up to 30%.
The Mac Pro hasn’t been updated since 2019 and is the only Apple device that uses Intel-based processors. Apple will use an M2 Ultra chip, an M1 iteration. It could have a 24-core CPU, a 76-core GPU, and up to 192GB of RAM, if not more.
These two MacBooks did not receive a refresh this year. However, they are likely to receive one in 2023 with Apple silicon chips. The models will use M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, which are upgrades from the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips used in previous generations.
The current MacBook Air measures 13.6 inches, but Apple is expected to work on a 15-inch model. The new model could be based on the design of the 2022 13-inch MacBook Air. However, it will not include mini-LED or ProMotion display technology.
A new Mac mini is expected to be released in 2023; however, little information is available; it may be an iterative update rather than a major redesign. The Mac mini will also use Apple’s M2 and M2 Pro chips, with different color designs.
According to Bloomberg analysts, the 24-inch iMac did not receive a refresh last year, so one is expected in 2023 with M3 chips and no design updates. The device could even be an iMac “Pro” with M3 Pro and M3 Max chip options.
The company is expected to release multiple screens in the coming year, with analyst Ross Young predicting that one of them could be as large as 27 inches and feature mini-LED technology and ProMotion support.
According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, a new HomePod will be released in 2023, and a mid-sized HomePod may be sold alongside the mini version. The speaker will most likely include a touch-integrated display and a S8 chip.
Apple’s Apple Watch will be updated this year with new health sensors for monitoring blood glucose and blood pressure. However, details on what features it will include are still unknown. Apple may also release a refresh of the Apple Watch SE and Apple Watch Ultra.
The product is due for a refresh two years after the last AirPods Max, which could include the same features as the AirPods Pro, such as an H2 chip, improved Active Noise Cancellation, an U1 chip for Find My Precision Finding, Bluetooth 5.3, and Adaptive Transparency.
The AirPad Air could be updated in 2023, and the iPad Mini is also due for an update. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that the new iPad mini will have a new chip and will be released in late 2023 or early 2024.
