The Apple Watch Series 6 and WatchOS 8 software work well together. The latest generation Apple Watch includes a number of useful features that can assist you in your daily life if you know how to use them. We’ve compiled a list of our favourite tips and tricks for making the most of Series 6 and WatchOS 8.
To get a better look at the contents of your watch face, you can zoom in or out on the Apple Watch Series 6. To use it, go to Settings and then to Accessibility. When you open it, you’ll see the Zoom control, which is turned off by default. To activate Zoom, toggle the switch on, and then double-tap the screen with two fingers to enable size adjustments with the Digital Crown. You can also use the settings to specify how much zoom you want. To zoom out, double-tap the screen with two fingers, and the screen will return to normal viewing.
Where, oh where has your iPhone gone? If it’s in silent mode and you’ve misplaced it, you can ping it with your Apple Watch Series 6. Tap the iPhone button in the Control Center on your watch. Even if your iPhone is in silent mode, it will make a loud dinging sound to indicate where it is.
To launch the Camera app on your iPhone, open the Camera Remote app on your Apple Watch 6. Then, using your watch’s shutter button or the timer, take a picture.
The Apple Watch Series 6 has an always-on display, which allows it to show useful alerts and data without the need to activate or unlock. The always-on display on Series 6 is much brighter than previous models and includes direct control capabilities. Without unlocking the watch, you can access basic features such as complications, notification center, and Control Center.
Do you use the Apple Watch to give Siri commands? For this, the Series 6 has a super-convenient intuitive feature: simply lift your wrist at any time and say your Siri command — no need to say “Hey Siri” first. The wrist motion automatically notifies Siri that it is safe to begin listening without unlocking the watch, allowing you to give immediate commands or ask quick questions.
Apple redesigned the way it measures certain health indicators for the Series 6 and added the ability to measure your blood oxygen levels (or Sp02 data). This option is available in the Health app under Respiratory information, or by visiting the dedicated Blood Oxygen app within the WatchOS. Your Watch also measures background blood oxygen levels several times per day, allowing you to see how much oxygen your body receives over time. While this should not be used to diagnose a specific condition, it can provide insight into overall respiratory health, which your doctor may want to check in addition to other tests.
The altimeter in the Series 6 was redesigned by Apple to track your elevation and provide real-time elevation changes via a more powerful, accurate sensor. Hikers, climbers, skiers, and even surveyors can use the tool to track real-time elevation changes, even if the difference is only a foot or two.
The fancy name for the large rotating dial on the side of the watch that you use to navigate to the home screen is the Digital Crown. On the Series 6, any time you are in Now Playing mode for any kind of audio, you can twist the crown to control the volume.
If you ever need to reduce the light or noise from your Apple Watch, the Control Panel now includes a Theater Mode option that activates your watch’s silent mode. Enable it to keep the screen dark despite alerts or notifications. Cover your Apple Watch with your palm if it suddenly starts making noise or disrupting a meeting. The Watch will sense this and automatically stop this action, leaving you to carry on in peace.
Hand washing has become an important health protector, and the Apple Watch Series 6 with WatchOS 8 can play an important role. It detects when you are washing your hands by listening for running water and hand movements, for example, and then starts a hidden 20-second timer for your handwashing action. If you stop before the 20-second timer runs out, the watch sends a quick vibration to signal you to continue. The WHO and the CDC both agree on the 20-second target.
