Think of your Apple Watch as an extension of your iPhone rather than a completely separate device. That is, when you pair your watch with your iPhone, the content from your watch is automatically sent to your iPhone. As a result, when you back up your iPhone, all of your Apple Watch data is also backed up. We show you how to back up your Apple Watch, whether it’s a Series 6, Series 5, Series 4, or an older model, in this guide.
If you back up your iPhone on a regular basis, your watch data should already be safe. We show you how to double-check just in case. We also go over how to restore it and what the backup includes and excludes.
As long as your iPhone is within range, your watch data will be backed up on a regular basis. When you unpair an Apple Watch, it will automatically create a backup. If you pair that watch or a new watch, you’ll be able to restore the most recent backup.
Step 1: Make sure your device is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
Step 2: Go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud on your iPhone. Switch the control on if it’s off.
Step 3: Navigate to iCloud > iCloud Backup. If the control is turned off, turn it on.
Step 4: Ensure that Watch is turned on.
Step 5: Press the Back Up button. If it hasn’t been backed up in a while, do it now for the most recent data record.
When you unpair your Apple Watch, it immediately backs up to your iPhone. As a result, if you get a brand-new Apple Watch, you can restore it from a previous backup with just a few simple steps:
1. Launch the Watch application.
2. Select Begin Pairing.
3. Select Restore Backup.
Following that, you can complete the process by following any of the instructions that appear on your screen. Please accept the terms and sign in with your Apple ID.
Your Apple Watch is an iPhone accessory. If your iPhone has been properly backed up and is up to date, you should have no trouble restoring your data to your Apple Watch. After you’ve restored your iPhone from a previous backup, you can connect your watch to the new device using the steps outlined above.
The backup does not contain every detail. It excludes the following:
Bluetooth connections
Apple Pay on the watch accepts credit or debit cards.
Messages from the watch passcode (if you use iCloud and Messages in iCloud, your iMessages, text, and multimedia messages are stored in iCloud)
The backup includes:
App data for in-app apps such as Mail, Calendar, Stocks, and Weather
App settings for native and third-party apps
Your app layout on your home screen
Clock face customizations and settings
Dock configurations
System settings in general
Data on health and fitness
Notification preferences
Synced playlists, albums, and mixes Siri voice feedback settings
Any synced photos in your Apple Watch app can be found under My Watch > Photos > Synced Albums.
Information on time zones.
