Why should I clean my phone?
It is always a good idea to wash our hands frequently. However, our hands are only as clean as the objects we touch.
According to laboratory studies, our cell phones can serve as a breeding ground for bacteria and viruses — gross.
Most of us have cell phones, and we are constantly touching them! So, what happens if we touch our germy cell phone with our clean hands? Cleaning our cell phones is a good way to contribute to our efforts to control the spread of viruses.
For cleaning instructions, refer to the product manual for your device. The instructions provided by your manufacturer may differ from these general guidelines.

Cleaning the phone:
- Use either a disinfecting wipe or a clean cloth sprayed with the solution of distilled water sand 70% isopropyl alcohol to wipe all areas of the phone. For hard-to-reach areas or stubborn dirt, try using a cotton swab or cotton ball dampened with a small amount of the water and alcohol solution.

Cleaning the phone case
If it is made of plastic or silicone, you can immerse it in warm soapy water. You can also use a disinfecting wipe or a solution of distilled water and 70% isopropyl alcohol.
If you have a cell phone case made of leather or other material that can’t be submerged, wipe it with a disinfecting wipe.
Allow your case to completely dry before replacing your phone.
What to do once you are done cleaning?
- Wash your hands properly to remove the residue of any unwanted products.
- Clean your cell phone once a week or whenever it has been in contact with someone who is ill.
- Avoid sharing or using another person’s cell phone.
- Be mindful of where you place your phone. We frequently leave our phones in restrooms or public places, such as restaurant tables or checkout counters, where germs can easily be picked up and transferred to our hands and faces. Don’t forget to clean your landline phone if you still have one!
