How to Replace iPhone 8 Plus Battery at Home?

EK Wireless | Houston's #1 Cell Phone Repair & Unlocking Store Cell Phone Repair, Tips & Quick Hacks How to Replace iPhone 8 Plus Battery at Home?

With a new battery, you can bring your iPhone 8 Plus back to life. Take the necessary measures if your battery is bloated.

This tutorial will show you how to thoroughly disconnect the display assembly to avoid damaging the display wires. You can skip the steps for disconnecting the display if you feel comfortable removing the battery without placing undue strain on the display connections.

Calibrate your freshly installed battery after following this tutorial for maximum performance: Charge it to 100% and keep it charged for at least two hours more. Then use your iPhone until the battery runs out and it turns down. Finally, charge it to 100% without interruption.

iPhone 8 Plus Pentalobe Screws

Step 1: Pentalobe Screws

  • Before you begin, make sure your iPhone battery is less than 25% charged. If a charged lithium-ion battery is unintentionally pierced, it can catch fire and/or explode.
  • Before you start disassembling your iPhone, make sure it’s turned off.
  • Remove the two 3.4 mm pentalobe screws from the iPhone’s bottom edge.
  • The waterproof sealing on the iPhone will be compromised if the display is opened. Have replacement seals on hand before continuing, or take care not to expose your iPhone to moisture if you reassemble it without replacing the seals.

Heating the lower edge of the iPhone will help soften the adhesive securing the display, making it easier to open.

Step 2: Suction Cup

  • Attach a suction cup to the display assembly’s lower half, right above the home button.
  • Make sure the suction cup does not overlap the home button, since this will prevent a seal between the suction cup and the front glass from forming.
  • Pull up on the suction cup to create a small gap between the display assembly and the rear case.

Step 3: Spudger

  • Insert the flat end of a spudger into the gap.
  • Slide the spudger to the left down the iPhone’s lower edge.
  • To increase the gap between the display and the back casing, twist the spudger.
  • Starting at the bottom edge and going up the left side of the iPhone, slide the spudger up to the volume control buttons and silent switch.

Step 4: Twisting and Opening

  • Insert the flat edge of a spudger into the device’s bottom right corner.
  • To increase the gap between the display assembly and the back casing, twist the spudger.
  • For breaking apart the glue keeping the display in place, slide the flat end of the spudger up the right side of the phone.
  • To open the iPhone, pull up on the suction cup to raise the display.

Step 5: Display Assembly

  • To remove it from the front panel, pull up on the tiny nub on the suction cup.
  • Break apart the residual glue keeping the screen in place by sliding an opening pick down the top edge of the iPhone, between the back cover and front panel.
  • To remove the clamps connecting the display component to the back casing, pull it gently away from the top edge of the phone.
  • Swing the display up from the left side to open the iPhone, as if it were a book’s back cover.

Step 6: Battery Disconnection

  • Remove four tri-point Y000 screws of the following lengths that secure the bottom connection bracket:
  • Three screws with a diameter of 1.2 mm
  • one screw (2.4 mm)
  • To avoid harming your iPhone, keep track of each screw during the repair and make sure it goes back precisely where it came from.

Step 7: Connector Bracker

  • The lowest connector bracket should be removed.
  • Lift the battery connector out of its socket on the logic board with the tip of a spudger.
  • To prevent the connection cable from making contact with the socket and delivering power to the phone, bend it up slightly.

Step 8: Display Assembly

  • Pry the two lower display connections straight up from their sockets on the logic board with a spudger or your fingernail.
  • Remove the two 1.3 mm Phillips #000 screws that hold the bracket in place above the sensor assembly connection on the front panel.
  • Remove the front panel sensor assembly connection from the logic board’s socket.
  • Remove the display assembly .

Step 9: Barometric Vent

  • Remove the two 1.9 mm Phillips screws that hold the barometer vent in place on the rear casing.
  • Take out the vent.

Step 10: Taptic Engine

  • Disconnect the Taptic Engine connector from its socket on the logic board with the flat end of a spudger.
  • Remove the three 1.6 mm Phillips screws that hold the Taptic Engine in place on the back casing.
  • Remove the Taptic Engine.

Step 11: Battery Removal

  • Peel back one of the adhesive strips on the lower edge of the battery with a pair of tweezers with blunt ends.
  • Peel back the other sticky strip on the lower side of the battery with a pair of tweezers with blunt ends.
  • Slowly peel one of the battery adhesive tabs away from the battery, toward the iPhone’s bottom.
  • Pull firmly until the strip slips out from between the battery and the back cover, maintaining consistent stress on the strip. Pull the strip at a 60o angle or less for optimum results.

Step 12: Battery Replacement

  • Take the battery out of the back case.
  • Temporarily reconnect the battery connector to the logic board socket before installing the replacement battery. The battery will be appropriately positioned in its recess as a result of this.
  • Reassemble your smartphone after adhering the battery and disconnecting it.
  • After reassembly, perform a force restart. This can help to avoid a variety of problems and make troubleshooting easier.

Conclusion

Before installing your new replacement part, compare it to the original part to see whether any residual components or adhesive backings need to be transferred.

Follow the instructions above in reverse order to reassemble your gadget.
