EK Wireless | Houston's #1 Cell Phone Repair & Unlocking Store Tips & Quick Hacks Full iPhone storage? Here is how to free it up

It’s time to take the appropriate steps to release some of the storage space on your iPhone after determining how much is still available and what uses the most room.

To check the storage on your iPhone, please visit Apple support and follow the insruction.

Get rid of unnecessary apps

Applications that you barely use and possibly don’t need are considered non-essential. On the iPhone Storage screen, you can choose to highlight them.

  1. Open the Settings application.
  2.  Select General.
  3. Click on iPhone Storage.
  4. Be patient as the apps underneath the graph displaying your remaining storage space load. When they do, the apps will be presented in order of largest to smallest size.
  5. You can find suggestions for increasing iPhone storage under the recommendations header. To see what Apple suggests, simply tap on a suggestion.

Delete non-essential apps

Applications that you barely use and possibly don’t need are considered non-essential. On the iPhone Storage screen, you can choose to highlight them.

  1. Launch the Settings application.
  2. Select General.
  3. Click on iPhone Storage.
  4. Be patient as the apps underneath the graph displaying your remaining storage space load. When they do, the apps will be presented in order of largest to smallest size.
  5. Check the Last Used section below an app’s name to determine which ones you haven’t used recently.
  6. Tap it to view the app’s size and how much data it’s holding on your iPhone if it’s been a while since you last used it and it’s eating up too much space.
  7. Select whether to permanently uninstall the app and all its data or just temporarily remove it from the iPhone.

Offload App deletes the app from your phone but doesn’t delete any of its data. The data will still be present if you subsequently reinstall it, and you can carry on using it normally. If you want to use the app again in the future and the app itself is enormous but the data only takes up a little amount of space, this is a decent alternative. Google Maps is a nice illustration of this; while the program is roughly 124MB in size, the data it contains is probably only a few megabytes.

Delete app eliminates both the app and all of its data. When an app’s data is far larger than the app itself, there is little benefit to removing the app alone. For example, if you download Spotify, this is a good option.

Get rid of or optimize extra iPhone pictures

You can enable High Efficiency mode for the photos you capture with your camera on iPhone 7 or later to optimize them.

Although there won’t be any difference in image quality, each shot will require far less storage space. It’s worth checking again even if it’s already on.

  1. Launch the Settings application.
  2. Select Camera.
  3. Tap Formats.
  4. Verify that High Efficiency is selected as the camera capture mode. Tap on it if it isn’t.

Discard music

If you have a large music library on your iPhone, trimming it might save up a lot of space.

  1. Launch the Settings application.
  2. Select General.
  3. Click on iPhone Storage.
  4. Locate and tap the Music app from the list; if you have a sizable digital music collection, it’s likely to be near the top.
  5. Tap Delete after swiping left on an artist you want to delete from your phone. Alternately, you can tap the names of the artists to remove certain albums or even certain songs. Seeing how much room each music takes up makes it simpler to decide. Additionally, you can tap Edit to simultaneously remove several artists.

Get rid of Safari’s cache.

All those temporary internet files build up, and they could be eating up a lot of space in your web browser’s cache.

You should be aware that clearing your cache will log you out of any websites you are signed into and destroy all of your cookies. But you can save dozens of gigabytes by doing this.

  1. Launch the Settings application.
  2. Select Safari.
  3. Select the Clear History and Website Data.
  4. In the pop-up, select Clear History and Data.

Get rid of old messages

Unless you have a lot of texts with photos attached, messages often won’t take up much space.

You can manually remove individual messages or entire discussions, though, if every megabyte counts. Additionally, you can modify the settings on your iPhone so that previous texts are automatically deleted after a month or a year.

  1. Launch the Settings application.
  2.  Select Messages.
  3. Click on Keep Messages.
  4. Select either 30 Days or 1 Year on the following screen to store the communications for that amount of time before they are destroyed.
  5. Depending on your selection, a pop-up will appear asking if you want to delete messages that are more than 30 days or a year old. To delete them, tap Delete, and to keep them, tap Cancel.
