Apple is well aware that the iPad mini appears outdated in comparison to the latest iPad Air and iPad Pro models. We’ve previously heard that a makeover for the company’s smallest tablet is in the works, and today a fresh rumour confirms it while also telling us what the next model will look like. Note that these aren’t leaked renderings; they were created from scratch using a combination of schematics, CAD data, and hands-on photographs to safeguard sources.
Now that it’s out of the way, let’s get started. As you can see, the upcoming iPad mini looks a lot like the iPad Air. In reality, it appears to be a scaled-down version of it. Here’s a comparison of the two:
The home button has been removed, allowing for smaller bezels, and the new iPad mini will be nearly equal in size to the previous model, with only a 3mm change in height and breadth. Nonetheless, it will undoubtedly be able to accommodate a larger screen. The dimensions of the forthcoming model are 206.3 x 137.8 x 6.1 mm, therefore the thickness remains the same. The sides, however, are flat, as they are on the iPad Air.
The fingerprint sensor is built into the extended power button, and the speakers have been “much better.” Surprisingly, the Lightning port has been phased out in favour of USB-C. According to sources, the next iPad mini will be available in silver, black, and gold.
The tablet is powered by the Apple A14 processor and will accept a newer, thinner Apple Pencil variant. There will be a version with 5G connection, and it should be available by the end of the year.
