Apple and the iPhone are expected to have a busy fall season. With all indications that the iPhone 13 lineup will be unveiled in mid-September, we’re just a little more than a month away from finding out what’s next for the iPhone. Read on to learn about some of the most essential features to look for in the new iPhones that will be released this fall.
Apple is able to keep marketing names under wraps until the last minute, so it’s still unknown if this year’s iPhone will be the iPhone 12s or the iPhone 13. However, according to one recent supply chain rumour, the iPhone 13 will undoubtedly be released in 2021.
In terms of new features, the speculations indicate that this year’s iPhone will be a more significant improvement than an “S” year, adding weight to the “iPhone 13” name hypothesis.
iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro are likely to be substantially identical to the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro in form factor. Moreover, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max are all expected to be somewhat thicker than their predecessors, with the same proportions as their predecessors.
The upcoming iPhone 13 will have flat corners, and according to one rumour, the smartphones will have a “refined matte back” to improve grip. This year, the camera bumps are likely to be larger to enable some significant upgrades to the camera technology, which we’ll go over in more depth later.
Apple has started releasing new iPhone colours every year. According to reports, the iPhone 13 Pro will come in a new matte black hue. According to reports, this colour will replace graphite and be significantly deeper, closer to a genuine black than grey.
The iPhone 13 is likely to be offered in the same three screen sizes as the iPhone 12 this year, as the form factors remain unchanged. However, the display technology utilised in the iPhone 13 Pro is one area where we expect significant changes this year.
Apple is expected to employ a new LTPO display technology in the iPhone 13 Pro, which will allow Apple to reduce the panel’s battery consumption. Apple already uses this technology on the Apple Watch, and it’s anticipated to make its way to the iPhone 13 Pro to allow a ProMotion display. This will qualify for 120Hz refresh rates, equivalent to the iPad Pro.
Bloomberg says the iPhone 13 Pro would most likely include an always-on display like the Apple Watch Series 4. According to some rumours, the always-on display would consist of a clock and a battery widget that will be visible at all times. According to reports, there will also be a “notification area,” which will light up when a new notice is received.
For the first time since the iPhone X, Apple is anticipated to lower the size of the iPhone’s notch cut out this year. According to reports, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro notch might shrink by 30 per cent in width. However, it might become taller because Apple is relocating the earpiece out of the notch and into the top bezel.
It’ll be interesting to see how Apple uses the extra screen real estate on the iPhone 13. The most noticeable update is the addition of a battery % figure to the status bar. To get precise battery % information, you must now slide down to the Control Center.
While earlier reports suggested that Apple may add the LiDAR Scanner to the iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13 this year, more current rumours claim that the LiDAR Scanner will remain limited to the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max versions.
The ultra-wide camera on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are likely to be improved from 5P (f/2.4) and fixed focus (FF) to 6P (f/1.8) and autofocus (AF). This should significantly improve the ultra-wide camera, which has been noticeably lagging.
iPhone 13 Pro is also expected to contain capabilities that were previously only available on the iPhone 12 Pro Max, such as a wide lens with sensor-shift stabilisation. Only the iPhone 12 Pro Max received improved stabilisation and 2.5x optical zoom last year.
Apple is also rumoured to be working on new astrophotography tools for better night-sky photography. If this function is implemented, your iPhone will be able to identify the moon or stars and correct the image using more extended exposure periods and more internal processing.
The iPhone 13, notably the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, is shaping up to be a significant upgrade over the iPhone 12.
