Making sure the software or operating system is as current as possible is an important part of keeping any sophisticated electronic in top shape. This is, of course, true for Apple TV updates, which do more than just fix bugs and improve security. They can get you the latest tvOS, which can improve Siri compatibility, connect you to Apple products like Music and Fitness+, and add new features like Spatial Audio and Matter support. Also, we’re sure you want to keep all of the apps and games on your Apple TV up to date so you can get the most recent content and security updates.
So, how do Apple TV updates work? Is there anything you have to do manually? Here’s everything you need to know about pushing an update to your Apple TV to fix any issues.
They may be able to, but it is not guaranteed. You can configure automatic updates to download any available update, but this option is not always enabled. Here’s how to make it work.
1: On your Apple TV, navigate to the home screen and select the Settings gear icon.
2: Navigate to System.
3: Navigate to the Software Updates tab.
4: Look for the option to Update Automatically and make sure it’s turned on.
5: To update automatically, your Apple TV must be connected to the internet. You should be fine as long as it has a stable Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection.
You may not want to enable automatic updates at times, or the Apple TV may struggle to update automatically due to a connection issue or other issue. In these cases, you can update your Apple TV manually whenever you want. Make sure it’s connected to the internet and then proceed as follows:
1: Navigate to Settings.
2: Choose System.
3: Navigate to the Software Updates tab.
4: Locate and select the option to Update Software.
5: Your Apple TV will now look for any updates that are available. If it indicates that one exists, choose Download and install. Now you must wait for your Apple TV to be updated. It will eventually restart several times in order to install the update. This is typical. Wait for the process to finish before proceeding.
You can turn on automatic updates for your Apple TV apps, just like you can for tvOS, or manually update an individual app. Here’s what you should do.
From your Apple TV’s home screen, select the Settings gear icon.
2: Navigate to the Apps tab.
3: Turn on Automatic App Updates.
4: If you need to push an update to a specific app for whatever reason, use the Apps section to find it. If an update is available, you should see an update button in the app’s window.
